Greg Hands reacts to Airports Commission’s interim report on aviation capacity

Today, the Airports Commission, the independent review panel chaired by Sir Howard Davies, published its interim report. The report set out three options for one new runway in the south-east of England which the Commission says is required by 2030: a new runway at Heathrow Airport constructed to the north-west of the existing airport; an extension of Heathrow's existing northern runway to the west to at least 6,000m, enabling it to be used for both take-offs and landings; a new runway at Gatwick Airport more than 3,000m in length.

Response to Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s consultation on the proposal to amalgamate Sulivan and New King’s Primary Schools

By Greg Hands MP, October 2013
Background and Remit
The Council wrote to me on 16th July 2013 seeking my views on this proposal, attaching the public consultation document.
At the outset, I should state for clarity that local schools’ reorganisation is not directly the responsibility of the Member of Parliament however, it is only right that the Council has sought my view.

Greg Hands M.P.’s submission to the Airports Commission, chaired by Sir Howard Davies, on long term capacity proposals

I met Sir Howard in person on 3 July when I was able to outline, at length, my concerns at Heathrow expansion in person. I add this written submission to explore a few further points. As Member for Parliament for Hammersmith & Fulham since 2005 and Chelsea & Fulham since 2010 as well as a local Fulham resident since 1990 aircraft noise is a regular source of complaint in my constituency.

Constituency Matters column

From the Hammersmith & Fulham ChronicleOn a recent British Airways flight to Heathrow, I was surprised to see in the airline’s “High Life” magazine an interview with one of the pilots, where she said that “I always enjoy flying over London, because there are so few approaches over cities”. I wouldn’t want to deprive anyone of their enjoyment, but there is something quite significant in this statement. A very frequent flyer is here pointing out that planes normally land at airports (most of which are on the edge of cities, like ours is) by coming in over the countryside, not over the city itself.
