Greg Hands visits Chel-Ski

Member of Parliament for Chelsea & Fulham, Greg Hands, donned his ski boots and went off piste at local Chel-Ski’s indoor ski slope.

Located on Sotheron Place just behind the King’s Road, Chel-Ski has been open for a year and is the brainchild of Benedict Wray, who also owns the neighbouring Clip ‘N Climb Chelsea, an indoor climbing centre. Chel-Ski is London’s largest indoor ski slope, and offers two remote-controlled treadmill slopes that rotate uphill. A maximum of three skiers can take to each slope at a time, and more proficient skiers can practise at speeds of up to 30kmh at a gradient of 40 degrees.

The Alpine theme runs strongly through Chel-Ski, so much so that following a session, skiers can head upstairs for some après ski at a chalet offering hot drinks, snacks, and even fondue. Like its neighbouring Clip ‘N Climb Chelsea, Chel-Ski welcomes group bookings and children’s parties, and is well-attended by school groups from around London. Chel-Ski also prides itself on introducing people who have no experience of skiing to the activity, and training them to become qualified ski instructors.

Speaking after his practice session, local MP Greg Hands said: “I’m really grateful to Chel-Ski for welcoming me today, and for helping me get back on the slopes for the first time in more than twenty years. It really was a lot of fun, and I’d like to thank Centre Manager, Daniel Crawford, and my instructor, Kyran Savage, for their patience and expert guidance in getting me skiing again.

“I wish Chel-Ski the best of luck as it enters its second year, and I’m sure that residents from Chelsea & Fulham and beyond will make the most of this fantastic local amenity.”
