Daily Mirror gets it wrong over Peter Jones
Greg Hands M.P. today hit back at claims in the Daily Mirror that it was inappropriate for the M.P. for Chelsea and Fulham to hold a surgery in the Peter Jones department store, Sloane Square.
The Mirror claimed in an article (15/2/2011) entitled “Posh Tory’s Sloane Goal” that Peter Jones was a “posh Chelsea department store” that “Tory MP Greg Hands insults poor”, that it “reeks of snobbery” and asked “Does Hands want working people to use the staff stairs?”.
Greg Hands M.P. hit back, saying: “The Mirror is ridiculous. Peter Jones is part of the John Lewis Partnership, and actually the largest workers democracy in the UK. Nor is either the store or my surgery exclusive. On the first day of the surgery, we had in Council tenants, a victim of armed robbery, benefit claimants and people from all backgrounds. I would like to put on the record my thanks to Peter Jones for lending me the venue for two hours a month, and at no charge to the taxpayer. My first surgery there was a huge success.”
Greg’s surgery is held almost every week, in either Fulham Town Hall or in Peter Jones. To make an appointment, either email mail@greghands.com or telephone 020 7219 5448 or fax 020 7219 6801.
