Charing Cross Hospital is the largest acute hospital in West London. 85% of local A&E attendances and emergency admissions of the Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust take place on site and many important specialised services are located there.

Just before the General Election Greg uncovered plans for the closure of Charing Cross by stealth, moving all specialised services to the inaccessible Hammersmith Hospital. Ever since, Greg has made it his number one priority to keep the hospital fully open.

The crisis-hit Trust is in the process of closing 200 beds - on top of thousands of operations postponed last year - and making 300 redundancies. The Trust has an enormous £37 million deficit – the second largest in Britain. The longer term causes of the crisis are Labour’s target culture in the NHS, and especially the poor monitoring of spending.

Greg has been continually raising this issue with local health chiefs - and has directly questioned the Prime Minister on the issue in the House of Commons.

Working with the new local Council, Greg will be keeping up the pressure, ensuring Hammersmith & Fulham residents do not loose their local hospital.
