Since being elected, Greg Hands MP has kept up his campaign for New York style ‘zero tolerance’ policing to be introduced on Hammersmith & Fulham’s streets.
According to the Metropolitan Police website, year end figures showed significant increases in the crimes that affect residents’ everyday quality of life. Violent crime rose by 6.5%, residential burglary by 5.6% and motor vehicle crime by 2.5%. In the financial year to date, total crime has already risen by 14.8%.
In conjunction with the new Council - which includes a Cabinet Member dedicated to fighting Crime and Anti-social behaviour - Greg is calling on the Metropolitan Police to learn from the success of US cities, like New York, where ‘broken windows’ policing caused crime to fall by over 70%. In New York City crime is still falling.
Greg also believes that an essential part of cutting crime is reducing the environment for crime, by taking pride in our public buildings and open spaces, plus showing zero tolerance towards graffiti, fly-tipping, public drunkeness and litter louts.
In particular, Greg has been instrumental in seeing the Ravenscourt Road dispersal zone extended and the Jerdan Place controlled drinking zone properly enforced.
